Since the demise of such epic road racing events as the Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, and of course the Carrera Panamericana (or Mexican Road Race) a void has been left for those wishing a pure open road experience.  Modern day events such as the California Mille, Colorado Grand, Copperstate 1000 are truly a special experience but can be too rich for some budgets and exclusive to some years and models of vintage cars.  Full race events like La Carrera, Classic Adelaide, and Targa Newfoundland are challenging and fun but dangerous and far from home.  The Carrera California offers vintage car owners a chance to hit the road for a couple of days of spirited driving along selected Southern California roads, retracing paths traveled by early motoring enthusiasts.

Following the lead of events like the California Melee, No Frills Iron Bottom Tour (now deunct), Alpine 500 (now defunct), The Snowball Rally and the SoCal TT, the Carrera California is a no cost event organized by volunteers without financial motivation or agenda, where all pre-1975* cars are invited. (* please use this as a guideline, we want to encourage your participation, exceptions are approved if the “spirit of the event” is preserved or maybe even enhanced.).

We will be starting again in Orange County with an overnight in Borrego Springs. Expected mileage is around 350 miles exclusively on two lane highways, route maps will be supplied.  There is no cost to participate in this event. You are responsible for the road worthiness of your vehicle, gas, meals, and accommodations for Saturday night.

Host Hotel will again be “Stanlunds Resort Inn and Suites”. There are limited rooms available and we have negotiated a discount if you mention, “Carrera California”. Located at 2771 Borrego Springs Rd, Phone # 760-767-5501 or click HERE If you have some extra money burning a hole in your pocket you can also try The Palms, a cool old hotel in Borrego. Twice the price, click HERE

Unlike the NFIBMT, we would like a confirmation E-mail from persons expecting to participate (this way we know how many maps to prepare). RSVP to eventinfo@bench-racing.com

The Organizers
